What
Is
A Credit Union?
The
credit union concept originated in Europe in the 1800s.
Tired of high interest loans and fees, groups of people
with a common bond pooled their money and formed their
own cooperative financial institutions.
The
concept spread to the United States in the 1900s.
Americans with a common bond, such as company or government
employees, members of an organization, or people in
a community, formed their own not-for-profit, member-owned
credit unions. Today, there are over 11,000 credit
unions in the United States - with over 74,000,000
members.

About Us ... A Longstanding
Tradition

Choice
One Community Federal Credit Union is a full-service,
not-for-profit financial institution with current
assets of over 50 million dollars. Choice One Community
Federal Credit Union was originally established in
1941 by the employees of the Bell Telephone Company.
In 1982 our charter was amended to include other small
employee groups (SEG's). We now serve over 200 SEG's.
In December 2002, our charter again was amended to
include underserved residents in portions of Carbon
and Luzerne counties.
Choice
One is governed by Volunteers who are elected
to the Board of Directors and managed by financial professionals. We are federally
regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and federally insured
by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).
We
believe that we have been successful for three important
reasons. We believe in the credit union philosophy
of "people helping people." We are dedicated
to providing quality financial products and services
to our members. And, we have been able to earn our
members' loyalty and support.

Here's
how your company or organization can benefit from
credit union membership:
- An
outstanding no cost benefit.
- Helps
attract and retain quality employees.
- Direct
Deposit/Payroll Deduction options.
- Studies
show that when employees feel their company cares
about their welfare, absenteeism declines and productivity
increases.
- It's
the third most popular employee benefit after Casual
Days and 401(k)s.
- Everyone
at your company or organization is eligible for
membership. (Immediate family members are also eligible
to join.)
- Adds
practical value to your benefits package because
it can be used regularly.
Once
your company or organization becomes a Select Group,
your employees individually make the decision to join
the credit union. Membership is not mandatory.
There
also is no cost to your company or organization to become a Select Group and no
cost to your employees to join our credit union. The only requirement to become

on your company or organization letterhead. After
we receive your letter, we will contact you to set
up the best time to introduce credit union membership
to your employees or members. It couldn't be easier.

the membership process, call Sue Bat, Director of

able to set up a mutually beneficial direct link between
your site and ours.
